Sherwood House celebrates the Queen’s 70 year reign.

It’s been a right royal knees up for the residents’ this platinum jubilee bank holiday.

It was lovely to celebrate this unique occasion with family and friends with our first garden party since the pandemic.

Andrea Downs, Care Home Manager said “Our residents remember seeing the Queen’s official coronation in 1953, so it felt appropriate to celebrate in style.”

Celebrations included timeless classics such as cucumber sandwiches, scones, and a Victoria sponge as well as plenty of refreshments.

Residents and staff also created a story board of old photographs from previous jubilee celebrations and street parties. Residents had great comfort in reminiscing over old memories.

Andrea said “There’s never been a Platinum Jubilee in this country before and there’s unlikely to be another for a very long time to come, so it felt fitting to indulge in some nostalgia.”

A commemorative tree was also planted with its own plaque to mark this landmark celebration.

Andrea said “Our residents really wanted to take part in the Queen’s ‘Green Canopy’ initiative and we have enjoyed finding just the right place for the special tree. It will provide enjoyment for our residents this summer and in the years to come.”
