Mother and daughter carers

A Care Assistant working at Sherwood House will be working with her daughter this Mother’s Day, after inspiring her to join her as a Care Assistant after the pandemic impacted her studies.

Sharon Teer, who has been working as a Care Assistant at Sherwood House for two years, was amazed when her daughter, Ella, decided she wanted to switch from studying to be a Pilot to become a full-time Care Assistant and follow in her footsteps. Ella, who is 19, made the decision to change her plans at the end of 2021, and has been working alongside her mum since November 2021.

Sharon said:
“Ella has always loved helping others and looking after people, so I wasn’t shocked when she told me she was considering changing her career. She is a natural carer and enjoys working at Sherwood House. Ella has always been full of energy and loves to talk so keeps the residents entertained!”

Ella commented:
“I love working as a Care Assistant, I truly am passionate about looking after other people. The hours also suit me and I have a nice working environment.

"I have been working closely with my colleagues to learn the ropes, and they have been amazing and very supportive. It’s been nice to have my mum there to help explain things too. Having her there to answer my never ending questions has been great.”
