Helping our residents to get motivated
As a part of our commitment to providing great activities for our residents we bring external organisations in on a regular basis to run fun and engaging sessions.
Recently, we had a visit from Motivation and Co, an activity provider who come along to Sherwood House every four weeks to provide cognitive motivational therapy through physical and mental stimulation.
Each session lasts an hour and is broken down into sections, including:
- Cognitive therapy – stimulation of the mind, quizzes and questions.
- Exercise session – works on improving core strength, mobility and muscle and joint movement.
- Games section – fun, enjoyable activities whilst improving hand and eye co-ordination.
- Music therapy – sing along activities with musical instruments, which helps to improves mood and wellbeing.
Lianne Elvidge, Activities Co-ordinator at Sherwood House, comments: “I feel it’s very important to get residents involved with activities. It really does improve their wellbeing and helps with mental stimulation, as well as creating social interactions and building friendships. It’s lovely to see our residents enjoying themselves, laughing together and encouraging each other.”
