Our approach to care

The staff at Sherwood House are dedicated to providing care with dignity and respect. We work to meet the individual needs of each and every one of our residents.

We employ an informal, relaxed approach to ensure that we maintain our home from home feel, but we always deliver our care with absolute professionalism.

Working with residents (and their families, where possible), we develop personalised care plans that reflect their needs. We review these plans on a regular basis to ensure all care requirements are met.

We support and accompany residents on medical appointments, and if needed we’ll arrange for doctors and nurses to visit the home.

Our team

The manager talking to a resident

Our well trained staff at Sherwood House are deeply committed to providing the best possible care and support to all our residents and their families. Their compassion and enthusiasm makes a real difference to people's lives. Because Sherwood House is a smaller care home, our staff are able to really get to know each resident, building a family atmosphere and helping people to feel at home.

We're also lucky to have local volunteers to support us. They are trained in befriending and delivering activities, and are a vital part of our community. They work with our residents to support active and fulfilled lives.

Andrea Down Small

I’ve worked at Sherwood House since it opened and I can’t imagine working anywhere else. I oversee the care that is given. My top priority is making sure everyone is happy, safe and cared for in the way that they want to be supported. We have a strong, committed, and enthusiastic team. We pride ourselves on creating a home from home for our residents. The staff and residents here are my extended family.

Respite care

We also offer respite care to people, for varying lengths of time, dependent on their needs. Whether they are with us for a few days, or a few weeks, a pre-admission assessment is always undertaken, to ensure that the care we offer meets each person’s individual needs and requirements.

We have a number of people who enjoy coming to us for regular respite throughout the year - they see it as a little holiday.
